About

Michael Becker.

I’m Michael. I help founders make the strategic value of what they’ve built unmistakable.

Today, that means founder-side M&A advisory for SaaS businesses, AI products, and software IP. My perspective comes from 12+ years inside software companies, building my own business, and writing about how value gets created.

What I do today

On the founder’s side of the table.

I work directly with founders exploring a strategic sale of pre-revenue and early-stage technology. Together, we assess what is transferable, define the asset package, and build a buyer-specific case for acquisition.

The work runs from acquisition positioning and strategic-buyer research through outreach, buyer discussions, negotiation support, and diligence coordination alongside the founder and legal counsel.

Ultimately, the buyer needs to see why acquiring what you’ve built makes more sense than building it themselves.

The experiences that built me

How I got here.

After studying communications in college, I started my career in tech and learned brand journalism. I began stacking skills as I moved from a large, matrixed organization to my first startup, where I fell in love with the energy of building alongside founders. From there, I began carving out my own path through entrepreneurship, advisory, books, travel, and an expanding interest in consciousness. Today, those experiences come together in my work helping founders build leverage and realize the value of what they’ve created. Several of these chapters ran in parallel.

Butler University

Communications & Journalism · Double major

2010 – 20144 years

I double-majored in communications and journalism at Butler. My internships at Publicis Groupe and Learfield Licensing Partners brought me into licensing, dealmaking, and the commercial dynamics of negotiation.

At Publicis Indianapolis, I would sit with Kirk Stahl, a senior leader in the office, and listen as deals were being made. I was around 20 or 21, hearing commercial negotiations up close and beginning to understand how much happens through a conversation, a relationship, and knowing what each side values.

What stayed with me

College taught me how to learn. It also showed me that networking and relationships are everything, and that I could use my skills to build in the real world.

Teradata Marketing Applications

Content & Community Manager · Indianapolis

Jan 2014 – Jan 20162 years

Teradata Marketing Applications, formerly Aprimo, was a smaller arm of the larger Teradata Corporation. This was my first time inside a large, matrixed organization, with teams around the country and many moving pieces. I managed content, digital growth, and media programs with responsibility for a $1M marketing budget.

I worked with CMO Lisa Arthur, helping with her speaking engagements and work around her book. My time there came ahead of the unit’s $90M divestiture to Marlin Equity. Teradata ultimately sold the business to refocus on data and analytics after the marketing operation fell short of its financial forecasts.

What stayed with me

Large organizations move slowly. An acquisition needs a clear fit with the existing business and a real plan for growth afterward. That is something I keep in mind when I assess a potential buyer today.

SharpenCX

Senior Content Marketing Manager · Indianapolis

Jan 2016 – Dec 20172 years

I joined Sharpen as its first content hire after Series A, working directly with the founders at its Indianapolis headquarters. I built the enterprise earned-media function with a scrappy local team. This was my first experience inside the engine of a young software company: the pace, the chaos, and the pressure to make the investment count.

About a year after I joined, the company went through layoffs. I was among the people let go. I saw how hiring, spending, and pressure could catch up with a startup, and how quickly a role could end even when you had put everything into it.

What stayed with me

I learned to be careful with investment, hiring, and the commitments a young business takes on. Being laid off also taught me to put my own growth first. My skills and options needed to keep expanding beyond any single employer.

Selected outcomes

Placements across 30+ industry publications, a 33% increase in domain authority, and 50% growth in web traffic. Sharpen later received a majority investment from TELEO Capital in 2021, several years after my time there.

Emarsys

Head of Content & Editorial · Indianapolis

Dec 2017 – Oct 2022Nearly 5 years

I was recruited to help build the North American commercial function at Emarsys through content and editorial. My main mandate was Marketer + Machine, the company’s branded media and demand engine. It grew across podcasts, SEO, webinars, partnerships, and company narrative.

I worked closely with CEO Ohad Hecht and executive leadership through SAP’s reported $500M acquisition and integration.

What stayed with me

I saw how different the scale of the game was for SAP. A major acquisition for Emarsys was a much smaller investment for a company of SAP’s size. The fit also mattered: Emarsys could strengthen SAP’s Customer Experience suite. I began looking more closely at the acquirer’s reason to buy.

Selected outcomes

Marketer + Machine contributed to 300% organic growth and roughly 20% pipeline attribution as Emarsys scaled to $175M ARR. My role was in content, editorial, and messaging inside the business through SAP’s reported $500M acquisition and the subsequent integration.

Spiritual awakening

Consciousness, autonomy & self-authorship

2018 – 2020A personal turning point

Between 2018 and 2020, I went through a profound spiritual awakening. It changed how I experienced myself, consciousness, and reality itself. I began paying close attention to the relationship between my thoughts, convictions, actions, and what unfolded around me. I felt a much stronger sense of agency and started questioning the identity and expectations I had inherited.

That experience opened my thinking far beyond the career and life I knew in Indiana. I went looking for knowledge in business, entrepreneurship, money, travel, and lifestyle design. Later, Think and Grow Rich, The 4-Hour Workweek, and Andrew Henderson’s Nomad Capitalist gave me practical ways to act on that shift: greater ownership, vocational freedom, and work that supported the life I wanted to live.

What stayed with me

I came to see my life as a story I could actively author. That is still deeply personal to me, and it shapes the choices I make about my work, my time, and who I become.

New Earth Knowledge™

Founder · Independent media brand

2018 – 20235 years

New Earth Knowledge was how I put that energy into the world. I had to write, create, and build something of my own. It became a media brand around consciousness, philosophy, and personal growth, with original writing, visuals, and multimedia programming. It generated more than a million impressions and attracted over 60,000 lifetime followers.

This was my first serious attempt at entrepreneurship. I experimented with individual and group coaching, courses, and information products. The monetization fell short of what I had hoped for, but the creation itself was beautiful to me. In 2023, I sold the brand through Flippa.

What stayed with me

Building something of my own gave me a connection to entrepreneurship that employment had never given me. Selling it made me want to help other founders realize the value of their own work.

My independent practice

Fractional CMO & Growth Advisor · Michael Becker Advisory

2022 – presentPractice established in 2022

I began working directly with founders and executive teams across SaaS, AI, fintech, and developer tools. The work covered commercialization, positioning, demand generation, and the customer lifecycle, from early products through scaled software companies.

Three of my longest-running client relationships have been Polymail (2025 to present), Cirrus Capital Partners (2024–2025), and SaaS Academy (2024–2025). Each gave me room to work closely with the people making decisions and bring my skills to the problems that mattered most to the business.

What stayed with me

I’m more valuable as a fractional advisor than as an employee. Retainers give me room to work directly with founders, apply my skills across businesses, and create leverage through a practice I own.

Selected engagements & outcomes

A few examples from the practice:

At SaaS Academy, I led content and demand work across three core programs, including SEO, community, lifecycle, sales enablement, and CEO-led distribution. Programs drove a 67% increase in MQLs, a 5,000+ book waitlist, and 22% growth in its private founder community.

For Cirrus Capital Partners, I helped launch and wrote a newsletter that reached 2,500 organic subscribers in six months, with a 64% open rate. At Polymail, I worked with the new owner-operator on positioning, acquisition, onboarding, lifecycle, retention, and expansion.

Antler

Entrepreneur in Residence · Dubai

Mar – May 20243 months

At Antler in Dubai, I worked with several teams and focused most closely on a venture developing brainwave-detecting earbuds designed to adapt content on connected devices. I helped that team raise $180K from Antler. I was the only U.S. national in the cohort, working alongside founders from across the world.

It was my first experience doing business in a global hub. My own attempt to form a founding team fell short. I built relationships across the MENA region and still keep in touch with people I met there.

What stayed with me

I wanted to build my work around helping early-stage founders. Dubai also made international entrepreneurship feel real and accessible to me. I was ready to keep moving in that direction.

HackerRank

Marketing & GTM · On-site residency · Santa Clara

2025 – 20266-month residency

I spent six months on site at HackerRank in Santa Clara, working with the CEO during a critical repositioning for the AI era. It was a deep residency inside a long-established, YC-backed company and my first sustained experience of Silicon Valley’s energy. The company was rethinking its role in hiring and developer workflows as AI changed how software gets built.

I led AMER GTM content and messaging across lifecycle, account-based marketing, outbound, web, and editorial programs tied to enterprise pipeline. The work was about making the company’s evolving technical capabilities clear and relevant to enterprise buyers.

What stayed with me

I kept thinking about when a company is most valuable, and whether that is the time to sell. At HackerRank, I wondered how the AI shift might change that timing. I’m still curious about who might acquire it and for how much. Helping founders recognize that point has become central to my work.

Selected outcomes

Work contributed to 14% quarter-over-quarter SQL growth, approximately $3.3M in influenced pipeline across 188 opportunities, and a roughly 5× conversion lift. Programs included Hot AI 70, AI hiring conversion experiences, and an AEO initiative that reached #1 category visibility.

Founder-side M&A advisory

Founder & M&A Advisor · Michael Becker Advisory

Jul 2026 – presentMy work today

I shifted my practice toward strategic sales of early-stage SaaS, AI products, and software IP. I assess the asset, help the founder articulate its value, find the buyers with a credible reason to acquire it, and support the process through discussions and diligence.

Alongside that work, I’m building Ubiquitous, a book and interview series about the choices behind breakout software growth.

Why this work

I’ve built value inside software companies and sold an asset as a founder. Now I help other founders get paid for the work they’ve put into theirs.

The person behind the work

A self-authored life.

Michael Becker in Bali in summer 2026
Bali, summer 2026.

Business is one part of my life. I’m just as interested in consciousness, personal freedom, and how to build a life that actually feels like your own. Self-authorship has been a current through my life, and I expect it to keep guiding the choices ahead.

I was born and raised in the Cincinnati suburb of Wyoming, Ohio. Baseball was a huge part of my childhood and high school years. I moved to Indianapolis for college, then stayed for a decade as I got my start in tech.

When COVID happened, I began exploring nomadic living in Costa Rica and Mexico. Over the next five years, I lived in Texas, Arizona, Las Vegas, and California. Once I could work from anywhere, I began traveling internationally too. I wanted to experience more of the world and choose where I felt most at home.

At Teradata and Emarsys, I helped build value and watched who captured the upside when ownership changed. My share was zero. The people with ownership participated in the value we had helped create. Your position in the game matters as much as how hard you work. That lesson stayed with me.

Selling my own brand brought me to the founder’s side of the table. I understood the years of time, conviction, and life force a person can invest in something that began as an idea. That is why this work is personal to me.

Today, I help founders who have put three, four, five or more years into a product find a credible path to realizing its value. I take that responsibility seriously because I’ve lived it. My books and Ubiquitous explore the same questions: how do we create leverage, gain more freedom, and make the years we spend building something count?

Five commitments I live by

01 · Self-authorship

I choose the life I’m building.

Where I live. How I spend my time. The work I take on. I want those decisions to come from me. That means questioning the expectations I inherited and being willing to choose differently.

02 · Ownership

I build for autonomy.

Ownership and leverage give me more say over my time. I want to build assets, skills, and relationships that create lasting value, then use that freedom to live well.

03 · Inner work

I do the inner work.

Solitude, reflection, and exploring consciousness are a real part of my life. I pay attention to my patterns, question my conditioning, and bring what I learn back into the way I live.

04 · Focus

I protect my attention.

My time and energy are finite. I’m at my best when I commit to the work that matters and give it enough attention to do it well. Space to think is part of that work.

05 · Experience

I live at the edge of comfort.

A new city, an unfamiliar culture, a cold plunge. I choose experiences that expand what I know and who I can be. Travel, connection, and adventure are part of how I want to live.

Freedom matters to me because of what it makes possible: meaningful work, deeper connections, and the space to keep discovering who I can become.
